👥 Shared Responsibility: Everyone staying here plays an important role in keeping our off-grid system healthy. Simple habits — switching things off, planning ahead, and using energy wisely — make a big difference. We live comfortably when the sun shines, but we always prepare for cloudy days.
Living off-grid means working with nature, not against it. The key is to plan your day around the sun — do more when it shines, and rest when it sets. 🌞🌿
When the sun sets or skies are cloudy, our property runs only on battery backup, so saving energy becomes essential. Here’s how to stay comfortable and practical:
💡 General Tips
- Use battery or solar powered lights instead of traditional lights.
- Turn off all standby switches — even tiny indicator lights can slowly drain batteries.
- Keep a small solar or USB fan as backup if power is low.
- Store extra batteries and solar lamps for emergencies.
☀️ During Daylight on Sunny Days
- Run all charging and heavy-use devices only when the sun is shining.
- Use that time to do laundry, pump water, or vacuum — all tasks that need steady solar input.
- Make sure to fill the water tanks before sunset so you have supply through the night.
🌙 At Night
- Unplug all non-essential devices (fans, chargers, lights) before going to sleep.
- Use solar lamps, headlamps, or rechargeable lanterns for light instead of house lights.
- Charge your phone or power bank during the day so you don’t drain battery energy at night.
- Keep windows with mosquito screens open to let in natural airflow instead of running the fan or aircon.
🌥️ On Cloudy Days
- Avoid using high-power appliances such as the washing machine, air conditioning, toaster, or kettle.
- Cook simple meals that require minimal power — use a gas stove, camp cooker, or outdoor BBQ instead of electric cooking.
- Keep the fridge door closed as much as possible to conserve stored energy.
- Wash clothes by hand if needed — it saves both power and water.
🚨 GOLDEN RULE
💡 If in doubt — switch it off
🔋 1. USE POWER LIKE A LIMITED RESOURCE
👉 This is not city power
Only use what you really need
Avoid unnecessary appliances
❄️ 2. LIMIT AIR CONDITIONING
⚠️ Biggest power consumer
Use only when necessary
Keep usage short
Never leave running unattended
☀️ 3. USE POWER DURING THE DAY
💡 Best time = when sun is charging
Run washing machine during daytime
Charge devices during the day
Avoid heavy use at night
🌙 4. MINIMISE NIGHT USAGE
Turn off lights when not needed
No heavy appliances at night
Reduce all power use
🔌 5. UNPLUG WHEN NOT IN USE
Remove chargers

🐾 Animals in Danger
🐓 No automatic water supply
🐐 Pumps stop → troughs run dry
⚠️ Animals must be watered manually
This property runs on solar power + electric pumps
➡️ If power fails:
Water cannot move anywhere on the property
👉 This is NOT like city living
👉 It is a critical situation, not just inconvenience
🚨 WHAT YOU MUST DO IMMEDIATELY
📲 Contact owner straight away
💧 Conserve all remaining water
🪣 Use emergency/manual water (if available)
🐾 PRIORITISE ANIMALS FIRST
🔋1. BATTERY DRAIN (MOST COMMON)
⚠️ The main cause of outages
Air conditioning left running
Too many appliances used at once
Devices left plugged in overnight
👉 This drains the battery completely
👉 System shuts down to protect itself
❄️ 2. AIR CONDITIONER OVERLOAD
Aircons use very high power
Running too long or at night can empty batteries fast
⚠️ One of the biggest risks to the system
🔌 3. TOO MANY DEVICES AT ONCE
Kettle + toaster + washing machine
Multiple chargers and appliances
👉 Combined load overloads the system
🌙 4. USING POWER AT NIGHT
No solar input at night
All power comes from batteries
⚠️ Heavy use at night = fast battery drain
🌧 5. LOW SOLAR INPUT (WEATHER)
Cloudy days
Rain or storms
👉 Batteries may not fully recharge
⚠️ 6. DEVICES LEFT ON / STANDBY
Chargers left plugged in
Appliances not switched off
👉 Silent battery drain over time
🔧 7. SYSTEM SHUTDOWN (PROTECTION MODE)
When batteries reach critical level
👉 System shuts down automatically to prevent damage
🚨 IMPORTANT
Most outages are preventable
👉 They are usually caused by power misuse, not system failure
✅ SIMPLE RULE
💡 Use power carefully
💡 Turn off what you don’t need
💡 Avoid heavy usage at night
POWER OUTAGE PREVENTION
Let’s keep everything running smoothly
Use power during sun light hours, limit use at night and when it’s cloudy, and switch off anything not needed.
⚡🌿 Solar Power Rules (Must Be Followed)
- ⚡ Use power mainly during the day (sun hours)
- 🌙 Avoid high-power use at night (especially A/C)
- 🚫 No overnight or unattended appliances
- 🔌 Switch off and unplug everything after use
- ☁️ Be extra careful on cloudy days
- ⚠️ Never use two appliances at once (e.g. aircon and microwave) — it will overload and drop the system
- 📵 Only charge essentials after sunset
- 🚿 Keep showers short (water depends on power)
- ⚠️ If batteries drain, power and water stop for the whole property
- 🌿 Use power mindfully so everyone has electricity and water
During sunny hours, our solar panels generate plenty of clean energy.
This is the best time to:
✅ Charge phones, laptops, or tools
✅ Use the washing machine or other high-power appliances
✅ Run fans or air conditioning briefly if needed.
When the sky is cloudy or after sunset, the system relies on stored battery power.
To keep electricity available for everyone:
⚡ Switch off all unnecessary lights and appliances before sunset
⚡ Avoid running air conditioning overnight
⚡ Do not use washing machines, kettles, or other high-energy devices
💡 If power is wasted or items are left on, the batteries can drain and the property may lose power until the next sunny day.
🌿☀️ Solar Power & Energy Use Policy
We operate fully on solar power and do not have a generator backup, so energy use must remain minimal after sunset.
We strongly prefer self-sufficient setups, including a movable personal solar system provided by the person staying on site.
Please discuss your energy needs with us before arrival so we can plan usage together and ensure the solar system remains stable and reliable for everyone.
Thank you for helping us protect our off-grid solar system 🌱
If you are not fully self-sufficient (e.g. caravan users), a weekly energy contribution applies to cover additional load on the solar system and battery wear:
🔌 $50/week – daytime caravan use
🔌 $100/week – shipping container, demountable, or overnight power use (including caravans)
💰 Payments are due upfront each Monday.
Other accommodation:
If a dedicated meter is available, power usage may be charged based on meter readings.
In most cases:
🔌 Air-conditioner use only – $50/week
🔌 Additional appliances – higher rates may apply
Any extra power costs will be charged once the power bill is received.
⚠️ Power must be paid upfront before connecting your power cable.
